Following changes in the second division structure of the
Attorney-General's Department, the Public Service Board by a
memorandum of 29 July 1964 changed the nomenclature in certain areas
of the Department. This included a change from 'Courts and Titles
Office Northern Territory' to 'Courts and Registration Offices
Northern Territory' This change in title reflected for the first
time in the title, the face that the Office carried out registration
functions. This occurred after the Northern Territory Companies
Ordinance 1963 (No. 43 of 1963), which provided for a Registrar of
Companies, was passed. The Registrar had operated prior to 1963 under the South Australian Companies Act 1892.
